History

Henry Hirst (Provisions) Limited began trading in 1878 when the founder of the company Mr Henry Hirst established the business on the busy Quayside of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The company remained a family business being handed down through three generations before being sold in 1984 to the Lees family with Mr. John Lees appointed as Managing Director.  In 1954 Henry Hirst developed the business to follow down the path of sliced Bacon products when Bacon was finally removed from rationing.  In 1996 Henry Hirst purchased a second factory called D&R Stevenson in Barrhead, Glasgow, with a team of highly trained butchers producing a full range of Gammon products.  This enabled Henry Hirst, as a business, to provide a wide range of Bacon products with a full range of Sliced bulk and consumer packs of Bacon and an extensive range of Gammon products.  Despite the many changes the company has made throughout the years our philosophy of "Getting it right first time everytime through commitment to quality and customer service" remains the same.
